Wallo Family Adventures: ER's and Family Reunions

I decided to blog today because not only has it been another month, but I have pack meeting tomorrow and, as usual, I'm nervous about it...so this is also to keep my mind off scouts! Let's do this in phases again, shall we?

Phase 1: June 25-July 3

Ok so nothing exciting happened at the beginning of this period...Tyler had to work a Saturday...but at the end of June Tyler's sister Jamie and her family came to stay with us. They were heading down to the big Andrus family reunion and stayed overnight with us around the halfway mark. We LOVE seeing them and miss them so much!!! Carter and Connor had a BLAST together as usual. They are ridiculously attached at the hip. I would even find myself trying to get Carter to do things by saying, "If you...(insert action here)...then you can play with Connor," and it ALWAYS worked! Score! Carter's speech also improves when he spends time with Connor, but he's also picked up on some of Connor's defiance. It's too bad they're not able to be around each other more!

The following night as we were packing up to head down to the reunion Carter woke up completely unable to breathe. I can't even describe the sound of him trying to suck in air then trying to scream because he was panicking and then almost puking from the strain of it. It was absolutely the scariest thing I've ever dealt with. We threw him in the car, rushed to the ER, and they went about trying to diagnose him (I TOLD them it was croup...why don't doctors ever believe that i DO know what I'm talking about?!). When they finally heard that tell-tale high pitched barking cough, they eventually gave him some breathing treatments (steroids and a nebulizer treatment) to combat his croup. They also said he might have pnemonia but an x-ray ruled that out. Unfortunately, they said if it is ever that bad again he needs to be brought to the ER immediately. It's good to know we did the right thing and got him the help he needed.

The following morning, after a night of NO sleep (we got home from the ER in the wee hours of the morning) we left for the remainder of the Andrus family reunion. The main purpose of the reunion was to celebrate Tyler's grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. We got there just in time for the big family picture (following Carter puking in the car) and the nice dinner they put on. It was so nice to hear Grandma and Grandpa's words of wisdom and all the tributes to them. They are amazing people and great examples to us! We also enjoyed visiting with other members of the family that day and the following one as well.

After driving home Saturday night, Jamie, Patrick, Connor, and Sadie stayed with us once again and we got even more time to enjoy each other's company. We were sad to see them go early the next day. I've been trying to convince them to move closer to us but it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon ;)
